It is too bad there are only 5 stars because this should get 10 stars. Necessary add-ons to Thursday Night is "Wednesday Night in San Francisco" and "Live Wire/Blues Power". They all go together since they were all done from his stint at the Fillmore West in 1968. For me, Albert King is my personal favorite bluesman and, in my opinion, the number one guitar player of all time. His phrasing and bending of notes is just phenonenal. No one does it like him or better. When you listen to Eric Clapton or Stevie Ray, you can hear Albert's guitar work in action. I like his studio albums but think the only way to listen to him is the live recordings. He really gets to stretch out and cook and expand on his studio recordings of some of the songs. His guitar work and his smooth as velvet voice are just incredible. My personal favorite is also my personal favorite blues song - "Stormy Monday". About 8 minutes of pure bliss to listen to but to be fair, there are no duds on the album and no duds on the other albums I mention. If you want to see him in action, check out "In Session". There is a CD and a DVD. Albert and Stevie Ray together along with a crack band though I don't know who they are but the rhythm section of the bass, keyboard and drums make it work so well despite no audience. Both Albert and SRV get to stretch out on each tune. Albert doesn't use a pick, he just hits and bends all those notes with his fingers. SRV gets similar sound but he is using a pick. Big difference. Buy all three, you won't be disappointed if you are a lover of the blues.
