I first heard Bill Stevenson in 1972, backing Tom Rush on an album called Merrimack County. But I didn't see him perform until the 80s, by which time he was appearing regularly on CBC Radio's "The Ocean Limited." I first saw him at Halifax's Middle Deck, backing the legendary Amos Garrett, and Bill's piano and smoky voice just blew me away. I'm happy to report that his voice has aged like a Stradivarius and is now at some kind of peak, and that his chops are as good as ever. I'd love to know how he can sometimes manage to be stark and warm at the same time. I'm SO glad to have some more Stevenson in my iTunes, and ready for more anytime.
