Description

2008 digitally remastered and expanded edition of the band's third and final album. With the band augmented by former If vocalist John Hodgkinson, the album is a lost classic of 70's Rock. Originally released in 1974, this reissue is released to coincide with Curved Air's reformation. Darryl Way was founder member of the legendary Curved Air, a group that brought Way's strident electric violin playing to the fore on a string of hit albums. In 1973, Way formed Wolf, a Progressive outfit featuring guitarist John Etheridge, bassist Dek Messecar and drummer Ian Mosley (now in Marillion). The music was a heady mixture of styles and secured the band a contract with Decca's Deram label. Esoteric.

I think if such a great album as this has been out on CD since 2008 without a single review, it must surely qualify as a lost classic. I found out about this band on the Decca 3CD psych/prog boxsets that came out a few years ago. All three releases are filled with great music, with John Etheridge (later with Soft Machine) on guitar, Ian Mosely on drums (these days with Marillion) and ex-Curved Air virtuoso Darryl Way on violin and keyboard all contributing sterling performances. The first 2 instrumental albums are very competent prog with jazzy leanings, but it's this third album which finds them at their most creative. It's a bit more rocky and intense, with great vocals from new member John Hodgkinson, the former If vocalist. If you like violin incorporated into prog rock of a high calibre, like String Driven Thing, Curved Air or the Flock, then this album is a must-have.
